Appeal against grades

You have the right to appeal the exam result. When you appeal the grade, you will be without the result until the appeal is processed. The result from the appeal will be the final one. This means that you can receive a better result, the same result, or a worse result, and potentially fail and be without a result. The processing time for an exam appeal is four weeks.

Appeal of Grade

All students have the right to appeal the grade of an exam where the result can be reviewed. This means that you have submitted something that another examiner can assess. For practical-oral and oral exams, it is not possible for a new examiner to assess your performance. Therefore, it is not possible to appeal the grade for these types of exams.

Should I appeal the grade?

Before appealing, you should request an explanation and review the grading guidelines. The grading guidelines should be published no later than when you receive the exam result. If you still believe that the result does not reflect your performance on the exam, you can appeal the result. You have three weeks to appeal from the time you receive the grade or the explanation.

What should I consider before appealing?

  • If you have received a grade in the subject and appeal, you will be without a result in the subject until the appeal is processed.
  • You can receive a lower grade or fail as a result of the appeal process.
  • The appeal process can delay the issuance of your diploma if you appeal an exam taken in the final semester.
  • If you have submitted a group exam, only the person who appeals will have their result reassessed. The result of the appeal will not be published until the appeal deadline for the rest of the group members has passed.
  • The course instructor cannot review your explanation and advise you on whether to appeal.
  • The appeal assessment is a new assessment where two examiners independently reassess your submission.

How do I appeal?

You appeal the result on Studentweb. You can either follow the link to Explanation and Appeal from the results page where you saw the result, or you can do it via the menu and select Explanation and Appeal.

Appeal Processing

The processing time is four weeks. Your grade will be blocked, and you will be without a result in the subject you have appealed.

A commission of two examiners will assess your appeal. These examiners will conduct a new independent assessment. This means that they do not know the original result and have no notes or communication with the previous commission.

When the new result is ready, it will be published on Studentweb. This result is final, and there are no further appeal rights. You can request an explanation of the final result. You must send a message to the Study Administration. It is not possible to request an explanation of the appeal via Studentweb.

If the new examiners arrive at a result that differs by two grades or more, the appeal will go to a third review. The discrepancy review will look at the grades and assessments made during the original assessment and the appeal assessment and then determine the final result.

Can I withdraw the appeal?

As long as you have not received the result of the appeal, you can withdraw it. You do this on Studentweb. If you have received the result, it is not possible to withdraw the appeal.

Can I appeal even if I have received my diploma?

As long as the deadline for appealing has not passed, you can appeal the result. When we receive your appeal, we will block your diploma until the appeal is processed. This means that you will not have a diploma during the appeal period. If you have a job that requires you to have a diploma, you should consider whether you want to appeal, as the result may be that you fail and thus be without a diploma.

If the result of the appeal is upheld, you will regain access to your diploma. If you receive a change in the result as a result of the appeal, your diploma will be annulled. If you pass, a new diploma will be issued when the appeal is processed. If you are without a result after the appeal, you will have to register for the exam again. You will then receive a diploma after the exam is completed and you have received a passing result.

You can improve your exam results for one year after completing your studies as long as you still have time left in your study rights.

What happens if I appeal the result in a subject I have previously passed?

When you improve a grade, the best result will be the valid one. This means that if you appeal the result of your improvement attempt, you will still have the original result. If the appeal does not lead to a better result, the first result will be valid. If the result of the appeal is a better result, the new result will be valid.
