First Year of Study: B1
The first year at Politihøgskolen combines theory and practice. You will spend the year at the campus where you have been admitted, gaining a solid academic foundation that prepares you for further practical studies in the second year. Throughout the year, you will delve into various subjects that provide insight into police work and its role in society.
What You Will Learn
You will learn about digital police work and forensic science, where you will gain skills in investigating and securing evidence from various sources such as crime scenes and digital devices. Preventive police work is also an important part of the study, where you learn to identify causes of crime and develop measures to create safer communities. The police patrol course provides you with practical knowledge of the police's operational functions, including communication, conflict management, and the use of force.
In addition, you will study the police's role in society through the course Police, Society, and Ethics, which covers the history and societal duties of the police. Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure provide you with insight into the legal system and how criminal cases are handled. Finally, in Tactical Investigation, you learn to gather and evaluate information in criminal cases, focusing on investigative techniques and witness psychology. The first year gives you a comprehensive understanding of the police profession and prepares you for an exciting career.
Meet a Student
Anne-Lise is in her first year in Stavern. The daily life of a student in Stavern is varied, and no days are the same. This is also a big reason why she wanted to become a police officer and study at Politihøgskolen.
"Stavern scores well on the environment, teachers, really on everything. It is a beautiful student town. We are the only students here, and if you are out in the town, you always meet someone you know. This makes Stavern a unique place to study" says Anne-Lise.
