How do you calculate the score?
The basis for your competition score is your grades from high school. Your grade point average is converted into grade points, and then other points are added.
Grade points (your grade point average x 10)
+ Science points
+ Language points
= School points
+ Additional points
+ Age points
= Competition points
You can calculate your competition score yourself by using Utdanning.no's grade calculator.

How does the competition work?
Simply put, the competition takes place by ranking all qualified applicants on a list according to their competition score. The applicant with the highest score is ranked at the top, and the one with the lowest score at the bottom. Study places are then offered from the top of the list downwards until all study places are filled. The score of the last applicant who is offered a study place becomes the cut-off score for admission.
- If you have a higher score than the cut-off score, you will be offered a study place
- If you have a lower score than the cut-off score, you will be offered a place on the waiting list
The Police University College does not know in advance what the cut-off score for admission will be. The cut-off score depends on the number of study places, the number of qualified applicants, and the applicants' scores.

Some Applicants Receive Individual Assessment
Some types of applicants cannot be ranked by points. This applies to:
- Experience-based qualification
- Dispensation Applicants
- Applicants with General Study Competence based on Higher Education
- Applicants with General Study Competence based on Vocational School Education
An individual assessment is a way to rank applications when they cannot be scored. This means that you do not receive a score, but your application is assessed to be at a certain level in relation to other applications.
In the individual assessment, you receive credit for the same things as in a point calculation:
- your average grade
- whether you are entitled to language or science points
- whether you are entitled to additional points or age points
Work experience, education in a relevant field, and similar factors are not considered in an individual assessment.
