Research Groups

We have established the research group at the Norwegian Police University College to address a gap in research on covert policing—a field marked by secrecy and therefore difficult to study empirically.

The research group focuses on studies related to police investigations and various aspects of the criminal justice chain.

We are a social science police research group for a holistic, democratic, inclusive, and safe society for all citizens. We study police leadership, the police organisation, and development in the police to contribute to knowledge-based policing securing a good learning- and work environment for their employees. We do this through investigations of, with and in the police.

Police science is the scholarly study of the police as an institution and policing as a process. The research group is grounded in this definition of police science and aims to further develop the discipline, which is still relatively young in the Norwegian context.

PIDS aims to capture the importance of technology development for the police. Currently, the effects of digitalization (big data, the internet of things, automatization, artificial intelligence, etc.) are the focus. We want to be the leading arena for research on the impact of technology on police work nationally and internationally. The seminar series The Digital Hour is a permanent arena for the research group's dissemination activities.

PREVPOL is a meeting point for academics and practitioners who are engaged in research, education or professional development in the field of preventive policing.
