Education Requirements
Admission to our continuing and further education courses requires you to document prior education. Below, you can find information on how to document different types of education.
Higher Education Entrance Qualification
The general basis for admission to universities and university colleges in Norway is called the Higher Education Entrance Qualification, which can be achieved in different ways. The most common way is by documenting upper secondary education.
For more information about the Higher Education Entrance Qualification see General requirements (samordnaopptak.no), for country-specific documentation requirements see the GSU-list.
For some applicants, additional documentation of English language proficiency is required. For more information on this requirement, see English language requirements (samordnaopptak.no) and Language Requirements (hkdir.no) for country-specific information.
Applicants that do not meet the requirements for Higher Education Entrance Qualification may apply on the basis of prior learning and work experience. Such applicants must document a minimum of five -5- years of working experience relevant to the course they have applied to.
Degrees (Bachelor, Master, PhD)
Completed degrees must be documented with a diploma and a diploma supplement from the university from which you graduated.
An official translation of the diploma and transcript of records is required if the original documentation is in a language other than English or a Scandinavian language. The translation must be completed by an authorized translator.
Courses and Other Education
Courses and other educational achievements must be documented with a diploma or certificate.
An official translation of the diploma and transcript of records is required if the original documentation is in a language other than English or a Scandinavian language. The translation must be completed by an authorized translator.
Practical Experience Requirements
About Prior Practical Experience
Several of our courses require documentation of prior practical experience for admission. There may be general requirements for your prior experience, such as having worked for one year in a police department, or more specific requirements, such as having at least three years of experience in forensic investigation. Please read the study plan for the course you have applied for carefully to ensure that your documentation demonstrates that you meet the admission requirements.
Neither a CV nor an employment contract is considered approved documentation of experience. Please note that any leave of absence while employed does not count as experience.
How to Document Practical Experience
Practical experience must be documented with a certificate of service provided by, for example, the HR department, an immediate superior, or a supervisor.
The documentation must be signed, dated and include the start date, end date (if the service has ended), as well as the percentage of full-time equivalent or the total number of hours worked.
If the admission requirement entails a specific type of practical experience, the certificate must include a detailed description of the relevant work. This is particularly important when specific practical experience is required.
If practical experience is one of the requirements for admission to a course, then the requirement must be met by the application deadline. Please note that any leave of absence while employed does not count as experience.
