Databases

As a student or employee here at the NPUC, you have access to the databases the library subscribes to. Here you will find articles in periodicals, journals and newspapers, as well as the texts of laws and legal commentaries. If you are an employee of the Norwegian police service, you can contact us for access to articles in our databases.

To access some of the databases, you must be physically on the NPUC’s premises. If you are an employee or one of our students, you can also use our VPN solution for remote access. You can see which solution each individual database requires in the presentation below.

A-tekst database

Archive containing articles from the daily newspapers Aftenposten (1983–), Dagbladet (1996–), Dagsavisen (2002–) and VG (1945–), as well as several other national, regional and local newspapers (as at August 2019, the database covered 350 sources).

Academic Search Premier (Ebsco)

Academic Search Premier is an interdisciplinary database with full-text articles from more than 3,100 periodicals, including approx. 2,700 peer-reviewed periodicals. In addition to full-text articles, the database also contains references and abstracts from more than 8,500 periodicals. The database covers areas such as the social sciences, health, education, ethics and multicultural studies.

The Campbell Library of Systematic Reviews contains systematic overviews of the impact of measures in the fields of education, social welfare and crime prevention. Continuously updated.

Criminal Justice Abstracts with Full Text (Ebsco)

Gives a broad overview of the criminology field. Abstracts of books and articles relating to policing, youth crime, crime and punishment, victim and perpetrator, prevention, criminal law, etc. Searchable back to 1968. Updated annually.

DOAJ

Directory of Open Access Journals. A database containing articles from quality-controlled periodicals in the fields of research and science. Access free of charge. Covers all subject areas.

The Education Resource Information Center (ERIC) provides access to literature and resources relating to education. The database contains more than 317,000 full-text documents.

Google Scholar

You can search many academic areas and sources using Google Scholar. Google Scholar indexes articles from scientific periodicals and books from a large number of publishing houses and databases.

Idunn.no

A database of Norwegian and Nordic periodicals. The periodicals cover the subjects: law, teaching, health and social work, social sciences, the humanities, economics/finance and the natural sciences.

A large and comprehensive US database, with the main focus on politics and the social sciences. Contains reports, articles from periodicals and newspapers, official documents, etc. Only English language materials.

Juridika – legal commentaries

At Juridika, you will find Universitetsforlaget’s law journals and up-to-date commentaries on the Norwegian Penal Code of 2005, the Criminal Procedure Act, the Dispute Act, the Enforcement Act, the Road Traffic Act and the Police Use of Firearms Instructions.

Lovdata Pro

The texts of laws, regulations, Supreme Court of Norway rulings, etc.
Use the Feide login to access Lovdata. Visitors to the NPUC can use Lovdata Pro – the library version, which provides full access to the resources, but no personal tools.

National Criminal Justice Reference Service

National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) is a US, publicly funded online resource for information relating to judicial matters and criminal law.

The website contains the NCJRS Abstracts Database, which has more than 200,000 abstracts from important publications relating to law enforcement and criminal law, including books, government reports, research reports, periodicals and unpublished research. Some of the references also have links to the full-text document.

PIA (NPUC’s open institutional archive)

The NPUC’s digital archive of professional and research papers written by its students and staff. Contains bachelor and master’s degree dissertations, scholarly articles, research reports, etc.

Politihistorisk bibliografi

This bibliography of police history has been created by the Norsk Politihistorisk Selskap (Norwegian Police History Society). It contains over 1,100 references to documents of interest for police history.
