• Your learning outcomes

  The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to digital policing with a focus on the quality of investigation, techniques, methods, and protection of legal rights and civil liberties. 

  General competence

  After completion of the module candidates can:

  • perform professional and research tasks in digital policing
  • see the role of digital policing in a broader perspective during an investigation

  
  Knowledge

  After completion of the module candidates will have knowledge about:

  • computer and mobile terms and technology
  • Internet and network technology
  • digital evidence workflow
  • digital criminal phenomenas and trends
  • relevant legal framework and ethics
  • safety and security
  • digital sources for evidence

  
  Skills

  After completion of the module candidates will be able to:

  • build necessary documentation to support investigations
  • identify sources for digital evidence
  • first responder skills - seizing items containing digital evidence
  • acquisition of information from open sources on the Internet
  • assess the need for special competence and bring this into operation

• Admission criteria

  The primary target group is police staff in the Nordic countries. Employees in other International police services or governmental agencies who work within law enforcement are also eligible to apply.

  Applicants are required to provide the following documentation:

  • Higher Education Entrance Qualification
  • current employment in a governmental agency

  
  Foreign applicants are only entitled to apply if:

  • the applicant's country has a partnership with PHS

  
  Applicants who do not have the higher education entrance qualification have to provide:

  • a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, of which maximum 2 years can be education
  • Meet the English proficiency requirements

  This arrangement only applies to applicants over the age of 25

  
  No recommendation from the employer is required for admission to the course. Students must therefore clarify with their employer whether they are granted study leave and reading days. It is specified that it will be possible to complete the study outside working hours.

   

• Practical information

  The course consists of web-based learning and totals approximately 140 hours. This includes assignments and individual studies.

  The mandatory reading shall not exceed 300 pages.

  The following requirements have to be approved before students may sit the exam:

  • Automatically graded quizzes for selected topics

  The examination consists of a final individual digital test. Grading is based on pass/fail.

• Tuition fee

  A semester fee is required.

  An external student is defines as a student from another Nordic coutry, or an agency outside the police service (including police special agencies). The tuition fee is not applicable to students coming from insttitutions which have a reciprocal agreement with NPUC, or an agreement involving contributions to the study programme. The student fee is NOK 6 000,-.
